Brian Bothner teams up to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and basic science research.
February 26 and 27, 2009 is the “Country Cares Radiothon” which raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Assistant Professor Brian Bothner, who did his graduate research at St Jude, joins Pete Hanson every year to help with the radiothon. Many people are aware of the special role this hospital in Memphis, TN plays in curing childhood cancer. But, what may not be so well known is that St. Jude supports a lot of basic medical research which is the foundation for their clinical success. The breakthroughs made by scientists at St. Jude are spread to labs around the world, including those here at MSU. During their on-the-air interview, Pete, Colleen, and Brian discussed the science funding crisis here in the USA and how supporting organizations like St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is working to cure childhood cancer, helps the kids, basic science, and will help get the country back on it’s feet again.
